Celebrating 5 Years of Pointe Black
Breaking Barriers to Ballet
I created Pointe Black to build the space I wish existed when I was younger — a space where Black dancers could feel seen, safe, nurtured, and celebrated without having to leave parts of themselves behind.
Our Access Fund was born from that same mission. One of the first times we realised just how needed this work was, was when a parent quietly shared that she had been using her child benefit money to keep her daughter in classes because she believed so deeply in what Pointe Black represented. We knew then that finances should never be the reason a child loses access to joy, creativity, confidence, and community.
Five years later, Pointe Black has grown from one child in a studio to a thriving community of young ballerinas, adult dancers, and professional artists. But our mission remains the same: to ensure that ballet is not reserved for a privileged few, but accessible to the communities who deserve to experience its beauty too.
